Title VI Investigator Tier 2: Investigating National Origin & Shared Ancestry Discrimination

Don’t miss Adrienne Murray on the E&I “Cooperatively Speaking” podcast as she dives into Race, Gender, and Justice: The Crossroads of Title IX and Title VI.

Class Description

D. Stafford & Associates offers a 4-hour Title VI Investigator Class focused on investigating discrimination based on national origin, including shared ancestry. This class prepares practitioners to assess complex complaints involving language-based bias, religious attire, immigration-related mistreatment, and perceived ethnic identity.

Participants will explore nuanced case studies involving antisemitism, anti-Muslim bias, caste-based exclusion, and national origin-based harassment. Training will emphasize investigative planning, identity-respectful interviewing, and clarity in reporting, especially when handling sensitive cultural or geopolitical contexts.

Some of the key topics that will be covered include:

  • Legal definitions and institutional responsibilities under Title VI
  • Distinguishing national origin, religion, shared ancestry, and perceived ethnicity
  • Interview techniques for multilingual and culturally diverse complainants
  • Evaluating subtle forms of harm: speech, symbolism, exclusion
  • Writing findings that reflect evidence, mitigate bias, and withstand legal scrutiny
