Title VI Investigator Tier 1: Investigating Race and Color Discrimination

Title VI Investigator Tier 1: Investigating Race and Color Discrimination

Don’t miss Adrienne Murray on the E&I “Cooperatively Speaking” podcast as she dives into Race, Gender, and Justice: The Crossroads of Title IX and Title VI.

Class Description

D. Stafford & Associates offers a 4-hour Title VI Investigator class focused on investigating race and color discrimination. This class equips higher education practitioners with the skills and strategies needed to conduct thorough, impartial investigations into discrimination based on race and color, as defined under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

Through structured mini case studies and interactive analysis, participants will explore distinctions between explicitly race-based behavior and subtler harm linked to skin tone or perceived racial identity. Topics include bias recognition, trauma-informed interviewing, and defensible report writing—preparing investigators to address campus-based complaints in complex, real-world contexts.

Some of the key topics that will be covered include:

  • Recognizing race and color-based harm, including perceived identity and microaggressions
  • Developing an investigative framework with bias mitigation tools
  • Identity-centered interviewing techniques and credibility assessments
  • Evaluating evidence and documenting cumulative harm
  • Constructing clear, legally sound investigative reports
