Conducting Effective Hazing Investigations
Class Description
D. Stafford & Associates offers a 5-hour training class designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of hazing and how to conduct prompt, fair, and impartial investigations into allegations of hazing involving student organizations.
Some of the key topics that will be covered include:
- Relevant requirements of the Stop Campus Hazing Act
- Complying with federal and state laws (such as state hazing laws, Title IX, FERPA, etc.)
- Hazing – what it is and why people haze or agree to be hazed
- Nuts and bolts of conducting hazing investigations (including considerations for develop an investigation strategy, information-gathering techniques, interviewing members and new members, and determining findings and recommendations).
Who Should Attend
This class is appropriate for campus officials who may conduct investigations into allegations of hazing as defined by institutional policy, including personnel in student conduct, fraternity and sorority life, and/or campus police/public safety who are involved in conducting these types of administrative investigations.
Certification
Attendees of this class will receive a certificate of completion from D. Stafford & Associates. Certification verifies attendance at this class and can serve as an institution’s documentation that the attendee has received training that addresses issues related to responding to hazing.
Faculty
This training program will feature expert faculty who serve or have served as practitioners on college and university campuses and have significant experience and expertise in investigating allegations of hazing.
Logistics
This class is a virtual 5-hour class (with time built in for breaks).
In-Person Classes: This class is not available in-person.
Virtual Classes: The live, virtual classes are held:
- One day from 11:00 am – 4:30 pm Eastern Time each day.
