Stop Campus Hazing Act: Key Strategies for Implementation
Class Description
The D. Stafford & Associates and NACCOP teams have collaborated to offer a dynamic 4-hour training course that provides a comprehensive review of the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA). This session equips participants with the knowledge and strategies needed to enhance campus safety, ensure compliance, and foster a culture of accountability and prevention.
Some of the key topics that will be covered include:
- A comprehensive overview of hazing, including relevant research and prevalence data;
- A detailed review of the Clery Act’s new Hazing definition and the process for collecting Hazing reports;
- Assessing Hazing reports for ongoing disclosures, including Daily Crime Log entries and Timely Warnings;
- Developing and publishing a Campus Hazing Transparency Report (CHTR);
- Considerations for developing Hazing prevention education and awareness programs;
- Creating a robust institutional anti-hazing policy; and
- Required Annual Security Report (ASR) policy statement disclosures.
The course will explore the critical role of a multidisciplinary team in fostering cross-departmental collaboration to ensure full compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA). Actionable internal control strategies, including a structured implementation timeline, will be provided to assist practitioners in effectively managing compliance and oversight.
When developing this class, NACCOP association members were surveyed to gain deeper insight into the questions and concerns of practitioners in the field, particularly the challenges they’ve faced during implementation. Additionally, ongoing conversations with the U.S. Department of Education (ED) officials have enhanced DSA and NACCOP faculty efforts in shaping the class content.
